Changes for 1st UMC

Dear First UMC Family,

It is with a heavy but hopeful heart that I write today to tell you that I will be leaving as the Pastor of First UMC effective June 27th. It has been a great honor to stand before you, sit with you, cry with you, laugh with you, and build the Kingdom with you over these years, and I will forever be grateful for the memories I take with me from Bluffton.

The change comes as the result of a new career opportunity for my husband Bryant in Greensboro, North Carolina. We prayed diligently over the decision, and while our hearts are sad to leave this wonderful place, we have peace and excitement for what God has in store for First UMC and its ministry under new pastoral leadership.

On a personal note, I would like to say that First UMC and this community has become and always will be one of the most precious parts of my life. You have helped my family welcome our baby girl, you have embraced us as a unique ministry couple, you have accepted both my husband and I for the gifts that we bring, you have journeyed with me and helped to heal me from cancer, you have supported us as we took a step of faith into the realm of foster parenting, and you have intentionally built the Kingdom alongside us each day. For all of this, I am so grateful. Thank you.

I will not be assuming another pastoral leadership position in our new location. I will take time to help my family transition smoothly, and I will live in a season of gratitude for what I have experienced here with all of you.

In the month to come, Bishop Palmer, the West Ohio Conference Cabinet, the Northwest Plains District Superintendent, Barry Burns and your SPRC committee will introduce to you a new pastoral leader. This group of people are Spirit-led and empowered by prayer, and I am confident that God is using them to place a new leader here at First UMC who will come alongside all of you to accomplish new and amazing heights for the Kingdom of God. Please, be in prayer for these transition leaders and your new pastor.

When I arrived in Bluffton four years ago with my husband, Bryant and son, Max, I sat across dining room tables, living rooms, barns, restaurant tables, football bleachers, and meeting rooms with you to get to know you. Thank you for inviting us into your lives and for holding us there for this season. While we hope that we have been a blessing to you in some small way, please know that you have ministered to us in amazing ways.

As the Apostle Paul said, and I echo from my heart, “ I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1:16-19a

Be blessed,

Pastor Kim

Supply our Sisters

Most womenSOS logo in color (2) have monthly menstrual cycles.  This requires a monthly supply of feminine hygiene products.  Women make up 32% of the homeless population.  Feminine hygiene products are essential, but are rarely donated to homeless shelters and women’s resource centers.  As a result, acquiring basic feminine hygiene supplies every month is a silent struggle for many homeless and poor women in our communities.  The inability to meet this basic, recurring need is often a private, humiliating disgrace.

“Supply Our Sisters” (SOS) is a month-long collection of pads and tampons.  Eight churches in the Bluffton and Pandora communities are participating.  Donations will be distributed to The Samaritan House and Crossroads Crisis Center in Lima, Ohio.

Please place your donations in the box located at the back of the 1st UMC sanctuary throughout March. Questions? Contact Amy Mikesell at amymikesel (at) gmail.com.
